Donnie Yen Joins Star Wars
Because the world is fair and just not only will Donnie Yen be in a major US movie but he will be a Jedi in the first Star Wars spin-off, Star Wars: Rogue One. Obviously we are extremely early in production with filming set in a few weeks. That said if director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) is smart he will let Yen do the fight choreography, at least for his own scenes. As one of the best fight choreographers going today it would be insane to not let him get involved in this capacity. Either way I’m insanely hyped to see Ip Man with a lightsaber.

Young Han Solo Movie
With the announcement of the Star Wars Anthology series of movies this seemed like an obvious idea but it’s still great to get confirmed. While we don’t have Han cast yet the creative team has been announced and it sounds pretty good. Set to direct are the busiest duo in entertainment, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord. Best known for The Lego Movie and the Jump Street movies they have been pretty good at combining humor and action. More heavy on the comedy obviously but the action in things like Jump Street has been shot alright all things considered. Taking over writing duties are the father and son team of Lawrence and Jon Kasdan. While Jon’s resume isn’t the biggest Lawrence is pretty epic. His writing credits include Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Big Chill. Disney seems to be getting all their ducks in a row when it comes to Star Wars and it’s looking pretty great.

Just A Grip of News From SDCC 2015
*NOTE- As of this posting SDCC is still going on and I’m sure I have missed a lot. Hopefully I can get into it on the next On Patrol.

Walking Dead Season 6 Trailer
It’s funny how Walking Dead can get me excited and make me feel like the same thing I’ve watched at the same time. Get this Rick Grimes, kind of a dick. This time around instead of Herschel it’s Morgan trying to make him come to his senses. That said the action looks as good as it’s ever been. With more zombies than we’ve ever had before it looks like there will be a lot of carnage. That said the writing last season was the best it has ever been. If they can keep that up I’m more than willing to watch Rick be a douchebag again. Hopefully he doesn’t talk to his dead wife.

Fear The Walking Dead Trailer
We also got a preview for the Walking Dead spin-off the creatively titled Fear The Walking Dead. What’s most interesting is the fact that the show will revolve around the beginning of the zombie outbreak. A relative mystery I don’t even think the comic book covered how it all started. While the family drama seems to be the main issue of the show seeing zombies attack around LA is a great change of scenery. Definitely looking forward to this show.

Wesley Snipes to Return as Blade?
Who knows how legit this is because Wesley Snipes is crazy. I can’t say I wouldn’t be hyped to see him become the vampire hunter one more time though. While actors take on superhero roles all the time very few are absolutely perfect for the role. The kind of of casting where you can’t see anyone else in that role. For me they are Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Wesley Snipes as Blade. He just pulled off the role to perfection for two and a half movies (big ups to his body double in Blade 3). While I doubt he’ll get his own movie I would be more than happy to see Blade and The Punisher kill fools on a Netflix show.

Ash vs Evil Dead Trailer Released
Bruce Campbell is back as Ash and it looks great. One liners? Check. Boom stick? Check. Deadites? Check. Most importantly slapstick levels of gore? Heck yeah. This more than delivered as a preview. The only way it could be better if it leads to Mia from the remake returning and we finally get the overarching Evil Dead universe.

New Batman v Superman Trailer
After a good, if overly serious, teaser we got a new trailer and I have to admit I’m impressed. It’s still way too serious but it’s great to see that it addresses some of the issues with Man of Steel. I was overjoyed to see Superman taken to court for causing mass destruction. It’s also ingenious to link this with Batman’s vendetta against Superman. More exciting is we finally get our first look of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. While we don’t see much the look works all things considered. While I have some reservations about the movie I’m definitely more behind it after this new trailer.
